BAGIRA paints people who don’t exist, yet somehow, they feel familiar. Her portraits are imagined, but each one is created to spark recognition, to make their viewers feel seen. Rooted in the richness of mixed cultures and diverse identities, these portraits carry soul, sparking conversations about heritage, belonging, and identity and the in-between , shaped by BAGIRA’s own experience growing up in a householod of different cultures and countries but also the beauty of the diverse nation of Curacao which inspires most of her work and where the artist in her was truly born. Most works feature imagined faces, often brought to life using AI as a tool for representation, celebrating the beauty of culture, age, and diversity and embracing the future of technology at the same time as a ‘traditional’ artist.

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS

A celebration of a woman choosing herself, her way. Cutting her hair becomes a small act of freedom, letting go of expectations of what femininity is supposed to look like. Her elegance remains entirely her own, reminding us that femininity was never in the hair to begin with.

An Amazigh name meaning “turtledove,” a symbol of love, tenderness and peace. Her silver jewelry draws from traditional Amazigh adornment, where silver has long been part of cultural expression, identity and heritage. Worn boldly against her white clothing and dark hair, it connects her softness and femininity to the generations and culture that came before her.

There is a brief moment in life where everything still feels light, when the world has not yet pressed its weight onto the chest, the moment before someone learns to harden.
And then, slowly, something shifts. You begin to understand.
Not all at once, but enough to feel the weight of it.
This piece lives in that exact moment.
Where softness is still there… but no longer untouched.
Inspired by two songs: ‘Cold Little Heart’ By Michael Kiwanuka and ‘Too Fast’ by Sonder

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS

This piece captures the awkward phase in life of teenage attempt at repair.
He is still too young to say the hard things, and too stubborn to fully admit he was wrong. So he shows up in his own way, hiding behind the colors and beauty of the flowers
Because regret sometimes arrives carrying beauty in its hands.
‘I know I hurt you. I just don’t know how to undo it yet…’

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS

A Papiamentu saying, literally translated: every head has its own hat.
The phrase reflects the idea that every person carries their own responsibilities, way of thinking, and path through life. No two lives are shaped the same.
In this piece, his sombré blooms with flowers, softness, pride, personality.
A reminder that what we carry through life can also become part of our beauty.

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS

“Solo ta kima” is a phrase often heard in Curaçao. The sun burns.
Even for those born and raised on the island, it’s something people still say almost daily, especially around midday, when the Caribbean sun feels strongest.
In this piece, a woman stands quietly in her garden while the sunlight reflects across her glowing skin, a simple, familiar moment deeply rooted in island life.

She grew her defenses out of necessity. She learned to protect herself before she learned to soften.
The thorns stayed, but so did the longing to be held without fear.
This piece is for those who have been hurt, who learned to protect themselves, and who still, despite everything, choose to remain open to love.

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS

She didn’t run from anyone, she walked away from everything she was expected to be.
All those silent promises to stay small, stay polite, stay in line… she left them behind. Still in white, but this time it’s for herself. Unbothered.
She lifts her glass to the woman she’s choosing to become , on her own terms.
A runaway bride to every rule that tried to shape her.

ACRYLIC AND MIXED MEDIA ON CANVAS
120 x 120 cm
In the midst of Algeria’s vast and untamed desert landscapes, the oasis emerges as a sanctuary, unexpected, nourishing, and full of life. Inspired by these serene refuges, “OASIS” is a series of abstract paintings that reflects the balance and peace that I seek in the chaos of everyday life. Each painting is a journey into my own personal sanctuary, a creative retreat where the act of painting becomes a moment of calm and reconnectionthe external circumstances of their life.

MIXED MEDIA ACRYLIC & OIL PASTELS ON CANVAS

Some things are felt more deeply than they are seen. This piece is a gentle reminder to step away from distractions, trust your inner voice, and embrace the beauty that reveals itself in stillness.

A reflection on finding moments of calm in the middle of life’s constant movement. Layers of color, texture, and energy collide, yet somewhere within the noise, balance remains.
